A typeface to learn patience.
In the 20 novels of Marcovaldo or The seasons in the city by Italo Calvino the protagonist, the naive laborer Marcovaldo, faces various problems related to the industrial civilization of the city he lives in, including the poor accommodation of immigrants (unhealthy houses, cold in winter), low wages (that lead to poor nutrition or diseases), pollution, wild consumerism, traffic and pollution.
At the center of the novels there is a never-ending contrast: the city, its race for progress and industrialization on one side and the naive protagonist, his love for nature and the his dreams of a bucolic life on the other.
↓
For this reason a 'variable' character was developed: it oscillates from a cold and static form (sans-serif) to a softer and more 'natural' one (Venetian serifs).
In the volume the typography changes progressively, leading the reader from a sans-serif paragraph to a serif one in a delicate, almost silent, way.
